Arjuna Artist Profile 2007
Like a wild mythic mystic tiger, Arjuna solitarily stalks the uncharted unexplored un-traveled nether lands of the deep dark, blooming, teeming, magical and mysterious jungles of painting, blazing a brand new red and orange path in the prevailing darkness of mediocrity, repetition, conscious or sub conscious imitation, over schooling, un-originality and grossly over priced paint on canvas that passes for art these days. Like a falcon soaring through the cold blue stratosphere sees a mouse on the ground, Arjuna has forever left the established ruts of painting far behind. Arjuna's art is altogether new. It is cutting edge, some thing the universe has never seen before and likely will never ever see again. What makes a great master of painting? Contrary to popular belief and the well organized pr of art gallery aunties, self styled "ace" art collectors and self proclaimed art critics, true genius in painting or in any other art form, has nothing whatsoever to do with going to art school, being older (senior) or dead, living in Europe or the number of solo shows that one does. Bob Marley, Jim Morrison, Picasso and Swami Hari Das (Tansen's guru), the eternal masters, were masters at a very young age, never went to art school and had few or no solo shows. Hari Das only sang for god and never for kings, nobles or patrons. The 'Art' in painting is way beyond putting paint on canvas and is common to all art forms including music, dance, martial arts, film making, animation, samurai warfare, writing, pottery, meditation, yoga, archery, flower decorating and acting. Therefore it is possible to reach 'Art' through multiple art forms which are like different paths leading to the same mountain top. Every great Master artist is a 'Master' precisely because they have found the universal 'Art' that is beyond the particular art form that they practice. Masters are no longer seekers, they are people who have found. They are no longer climbing mountain paths, they are dancing on snow capped peaks. The creative source of the universe is Arjuna's personal master and the course of training that it is charting for Arjuna is to become deeply intimate with the universal 'Art'. Ordinary people struggle to understand what art is. For Arjuna Art is crystal clear: Art is the mysterious intelligence in form. The greater the intelligence in the form the greater the art. Form means a specific shape be it visual, musical, tasteful, motor (movement/dance) or in any other dimension. Arjuna is in a process of vast and deep training in multiple art forms including painting, dhrupad (the Sanskrit of Indian classical music), meditation, martial arts and zen. To reach the core of the universe where all creativity comes from one must be like a warrior, samurai fit in body, energy and mind, aware, wise, paradoxical, full of light and darkness, unfathomable and deeply skilled in the art of connection. Arjuna connects to this creative source through skillful action, harmonious rebellion, yoga, healthfulness, martial arts, soccer, swimming, steam baths and meditation. The art then flows from here. This is ultimately a more powerful way to connect than through drunkenness or insanity which are portals that other deep artists have sometimes used to reach such out of the way places. Trained by leading Zen masters of the day, the son of a trained artist, the disciple of the guru of musical gurus, a graduate of the Wharton school. Having lived in New York city and Delhi, through varied and extreme circumstances, traveling the world and painting since childhood. Arjuna is a unique confluence of diverse, opposite, explosive and highly unlikely influences that the universe has brought together in the crucible of one person, to create its own fine grained powerful instrument for human expression. Kind of like God's very own Ferrari or top of the line super hi-tech mobile phone, Arjuna is used by the universe to commute and communicate. Arjuna defies all convention. As far as painters go, Arjuna is the full enchilada. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
